Physician-Led Weight & Metabolic Health Program (GLP-1 Support)
At Optima Kidney Care, our physician-led program takes a whole-person approach to weight and metabolic health. Care focuses on the foundations of long-term health — nutrition, physical activity, behavioral patterns, metabolic health, and medical safety — with medications such as GLP-1 therapies (including FDA-approved semaglutide when appropriate) used as one tool, not the sole focus.
You’ll work closely with Dr. Campos to develop a personalized plan that supports sustainable change, improves cardiometabolic and kidney health, and prioritizes safety over quick fixes. Ongoing access ensures thoughtful monitoring, education, and adjustments over time.

What makes this program different?

This is not an aesthetics clinic and not a refill-only service. Care is grounded in evidence-based medicine and a deep understanding of how weight, metabolism, cardiovascular health, and kidney function intersect.
Patients receive thoughtful, physician-led care that emphasizes education, lifestyle foundations, and long-term success — not rapid weight loss alone. Medication decisions are made carefully, with attention to side effects, sustainability, and each patient’s broader health context.
Dr. Campos’ background in nephrology and internal medicine allows for closer monitoring of higher-risk patients, ensuring care remains safe, supportive, and responsive over time.

Obesity is strongly linked to cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease, and reducing it can improve long-term outcomes. Dr. Campos is committed to supporting patients throughout the process—especially when side effects or challenges arise—so you feel safe, supported, and successful over time.

Learn more about Semaglutide
What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a medication in the GLP-1 receptor agonist family that was originally developed to improve blood sugar control. It is now widely used in medical weight management because it helps reduce appetite and supports meaningful, sustained weight loss when combined with lifestyle changes.

How Semaglutide Helps With Weight Loss
Semaglutide supports weight loss through several mechanisms, including:
-
Decreasing appetite and cravings
-
Helping you feel full sooner and longer
-
Reducing “food noise” and impulse eating
-
Improving insulin resistance and metabolic health
-
Supporting long-term weight maintenance with consistent follow-up
Many patients also notice improvements in health markers such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar over time.

What to Expect
Semaglutide is started at a low dose and gradually increased to improve tolerability. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal (such as nausea or constipation), and we guide you through prevention strategies and dose adjustments when needed.
